Open Question: How to get from JFK airport (New York) to Elizabeth, New Jersey? ?

I am an international student and this is my first time traveling to the US. I am carrying two pieces of bulky baggage with me and will be arriving around 6:30pm at JFK, NY. 1.Does anyone know if there is any cheaper way of getting from JFK airport to Spring St, Elizabeth, NJ? 2.How much am I supposed to pay if I take a taxi? Is the taxi in JFK metered or bargained? My considerations in regard to my questions above: 1. I carry two pieces of luggage 2. I arrive at around 6:30pm Thank you so much for your inputs.
